Eligibility to Begin the Family Visas for Permanent Residence Process
To be eligible for a family-based visa for permanent residence, the following requirements must be met:
1. Sponsor Eligibility:
You must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
You must be able to prove the qualifying relationship with the family member you're sponsoring
You must meet minimum income requirements (typically 125% of the federal poverty guidelines) to financially support your relative
2. Relationship Categories:
Immediate Relatives of U.S. Citizens:
Spouses
Unmarried children under 21 years of age
Parents of U.S. citizens who are 21 years or older
Family Preference Categories:
Unmarried sons and daughters (21 or older) of U.S. citizens
Spouses and unmarried children of permanent residents
Married sons and daughters of U.S. citizens

3. Beneficiary Eligibility:
